The name, "Jayce Blalock" may be familiar to a casual baseball fan.
Whether it be from his time (and this home run) competing in the LLWS, to the home run he hit at was then called SunTrust Park a short time after, Blalock has already had his share of fame.
Earlier this week, despite his recruitment still picking up and offers still coming in, Blalock made the decision to commit to Georgia Tech.
He spent some time with JOL on Saturday, as he looks back on those moments, what led him to GT, and much more.
"For me, one of the top things was that I wanted my parents and my family to be able to watch my games in college," said Blalock about his decision. "I wanted to be close to home. I'm 50 minutes away from GT where we live now. I went to a baseball game there (at Russ Chandler Stadium) last year, and just fell in love with the environment there."
Blalock continued.
"I really love how it is just in the middle of the city, ya know? It is like all of Atlanta is watching you when you are out there. I feel like that and I haven't even stepped foot on the field yet. Once I get there, I can really play anywhere on the field to be honest. I see myself playing either as a corner OF or 2B. I see myself fitting in very well with what they are doing, I'm from here (Atlanta)."
As the summer months roll on, the elite talent around the southeast, committed or not, will be competing in various showcase events. As a result of these events, relationships are built, and friendships grow among some of the best players in the area. Blalock's been building those friendships with several different players, including some that will now also be future teammates.
"Tervell Johnson, Camron Hill, Landon Yates, and Nico Senese are all friends of mine," he said. "I've also made relationships with all the other committed players too. We have a group chat we are all in."
Among the schools that were showing interest in Blalock, or offered him were Oklahoma State, UGA, South Carolina, Miami, and Indiana, among others.
As his recruitment comes to a close now that he's committed to the program he will call home when the time comes, he took some time to reflect on the journey to this moment.
That journey, of course, includes this home run he hit at SunTrust Park back in 2017.
"It was a moment I could say no other kid had gotten," said Blalock. "It was just great to hit on a field of a team (the Braves) that I have been watching since I was little."
The opportunity, of course, was because of the tape-measure shot he hit against the team from South Carolina in the LLWS.
"They wanted to see if I could do it at SunTrust," he recalled. "I knew I could do it. The field looked smaller in person, I was expecting more."
