Tech lands a top kicker

Kennedale (Tx.) kicker Aidan Birr committed to Georgia Tech on Friday afternoon after landing an offer from the Yellow Jackets. Birr kicked for the staff last month during the Jackets' specialist camp and he picked up an offer from Tech earlier in the week and made his commitment public on Friday.

"I went to the specialist camp, kicked really good, and have been keeping in contact with coaches at Georgia Tech," Birr told JOL. "They offered Tuesday morning and I committed right then. I was just waiting for the ok to post it."

Tech special teams co-coordinator Jeff Popovich ran point on Birr's recruitment and kept in touch with the specialist after the Jackets' camp.

"Coach Pop has made me feel like family since the camp," he said.

Coming from the suburbs of Dallas, Birr is familiar with city life and he was impressed with what Georgia Tech had to offer during his visit.

"I really liked Atlanta and I loved the campus and facilities at Tech," he said.

Birr can also kill two birds with one stone as both a place kicker and kickoff specialist. He also punts for his high school team as well.
