Grayson HS (Ga.) three-star safety Jeremiah Smith got the offer he wanted this week from Georgia Tech and after a visit he committed on Thursday to the Yellow Jackets. Smith is the first commitment for the 2019 class for the Yellow Jackets and the first Grayson player to commit to Tech since Chris Martin in the 2016 recruiting class.

"I committed to Georgia Tech because of the world class education, the great coaches and the location," Smith said. "Everything felt right when I walked onto the campus. I wanted to commit the first time I visited back in my 10th grade year when I got to experience the atmosphere at the Tech-Miami game."

Thursday was the fourth time Smith visited Georgia Tech and the first time since last summer.

"I've visited Tech three times and the last visit before today was a camp back in July," he said. "It feels amazing to be committed and it is a lot of weight off my shoulders. I can finally sleep!"

With the new defensive coordinator Nate Woody and new assistants Shiel Wood and Jerome Riase flanking returning coaches Andy McCollum and Joe Speed on defense, Smith said he is hoping to bring a new level of energy to the Jackets' defense in 2019 when he arrives on campus.

"I feel like I'll bring more energy and life to the team. The coaches want me to play strong and free safety for them," he said.

Smith should fit right in at Tech and he could be a strong anchor for the 2019 class.
