By the Numbers: GT can't cash in, falls to NIU

Georgia Tech had another disappointing loss to Northern Illinois in the 2021 opener marking the sixth loss in the last seven games for the Jackets dating back to mid-2020. The Jackets were playing a team that did not win a game last year in a shortened season and the numbers from our friends at PFF show that some things have improved, but the Jackets still can't put points on the board in a major way and get off the field in key moments leading to another loss to an inferior opponent.

YATES STEPS UP AFTER SIMS INJURY

Jeff Sims who started every game and played the majority of the snaps at quarterback in 2020 lasted just one and a half quarters before an upper extremity injury knocked him out of the game. Jordan Yates came in for his first real extended playing time with the team trailing 14-0 and he got them to 21-14 with a chance for the defense to seal a win. It was a gutty performance Sims struggled putting up the second-worst PFF numbers of his young career with only the Clemson game in 2020 surpassing that number.
