Lee continues to improve

The transition from high school can be tough for any athlete and redshirt freshman quarterback Vad Lee had plenty of growing pains during his first year at Georgia Tech. Headed out of Fall Camp Lee finds himself the backup quarterback and hoping for a bigger role.

After a rough first scrimmage, Lee bounced back and led the number two and at times the first team offense to scores during Tech's final Fall Camp scrimmage.

"We can improve and it starts with me, but I think we did fairly well today," Lee said. "I think I got five or six possessions and we scored on every drive. We could have been off the field much easier and instead of 20 play drives, we could have had four or five play. There are things we could have done better as an offense and that starts with me at quarterback because I could have done better."

While most Tech fans know about Lee's ability to throw the ball, Lee made his best play of the day with his feet. He said after the scrimmage that he needs to work more with the receivers to build a better bond to help his passing.

"My best play was a long run down the sideline for 40 yards on the option keeper. I felt like I could have thrown the ball better and it wasn't my best performance throwing the ball. I am just ready to get back to the grind of practice next week and get with those receivers and just keep working on it and throwing it. I might need to stay after practice just to get connections. Those connections were not there today. I could have done better."

With Synjyn Days mostly working at A-back now, Lee seems to be the clear number two quarterback, but he says he is not taking that for granted.

"I don't know," Lee said when asked if he is the clear number two quarterback. "All I can say is I did what I had to do today. I wanted to do my absolute best today and it wasn't my best, but I think I did pretty well running the offense and managing the game."

The Jackets move into scout team mode next week as they begin full preparation for Virginia Tech. Head Coach Paul Johnson has not firmly set the depth at quarterback behind Tevin Washington, but it appears that Lee has probably locked down the number two spot.
