Jordan-Swilling making quick improvements at LB

Bruce Jordan-Swilling had to face a tall task when he got to Georgia Tech: he had to transition from running back to middle linebacker. Jordan-Swilling had no previous experience playing middle linebacker and was even a highly recruited running back out of high school. That being said, coaches know one thing for sure about BJS, and that is that he is pure athlete.

The transition has not been all-smooth, and there has been times where Bruce has struggled, but nothing too unexpected for a true freshman in a new position. In fact, despite the few mistakes here and there, Jordan-Swilling has played quite remarkably at the Division 1 level, and showed his athleticism off in a big way on Saturday. The true freshman had 11 total tackles, a tackle for loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a pick six.

“I think the coach is putting me in the right spots to make me feel comfortable on the field. I’m feeling very comfortable. I was just talking to my dad before college, he always told me he wants me to be around the ball, and I want to be around the ball. I can’t do anything if I’m not around the ball; it makes no sense to even be in the game.”

It was undoubtedly his greatest performance of the season, but Bruce is not satisfied. “I would grade myself a C. There’s room for improvement, and just to top it off, we lost. You can never have a good game and still lose; you always have to try for the best.”

The true freshman will continue to play during the absence of Brant Mitchell, and will likely get some playing time even after he returns if coaches keep seeing improvements. Bruce and the linebackers will have to continue to step up if the Jackets want to bounce back from two disappointing losses.
