Practice Notes 9/1

Georgia Tech's football team began work on Tulane on Monday afternoon while most people were enjoying the Labor Day Holiday. Head coach Paul Johnson and offensive line coach Mike Sewak had high praise for senior right guard Shaquille Mason and his performance on Saturday after practice Monday.

"Shaq played really well. He put 12 defenders on the ground and he could have put more down, but they kind of ran away from him after a while," Sewak said.

Monday's practice was abbreviated because of error correction and conditioning drills like most Monday sessions. Overall Coach Johnson said the team played adequately on Saturday and they need to get better to keep winning games.

"We scored six times and had a chance to score on seven of the nine possessions we had on offense. We had a couple of bad series offensively," Johnson said. "We had some missed tackles and some missed assignments on defense. Wofford does that to a lot of people (makes them look bad). We each had the ball nine times total. We can play much better, but it wasn't all bad either."

Senior strong safety Isaiah Johnson left the game on Saturday with an apparently leg injury and he was in a red non-contact jersey on Monday. Coach Johnson said they will know his status later in the week and that no one was seriously hurt in the Wofford game.

Veteran linebacker Anthony Harrell was cleared to play late last week and he is expected to be in the rotation for the Tulane game.
