Roberts hangs up his cleats
Chase Roberts grew up a diehard Georgia Tech fan so his decision on Tuesday to hang up his cleats couldn't have been an easy one. Last season during a game against Clemson Roberts suffered a serious concussion and severity of the concussion ended his career.
"I want to express my thanks to Coach Johnson, the coaches, athletic trainers and medical staff for their support through this difficult transition," said Roberts in a statement. "Playing under the lights at Bobby Dodd was something I've wanted to do since I was a little kid and it will always be a part of me. I love my teammates, my school and I will always be a Yellow Jacket."
Roberts will remain on scholarship and continue his path towards a degree.
With Roberts out the Jackets have projected starters Chris Griffin and Bryan Chamberlain at offensive tackle, oft-injured Errin Joe and a trio of freshmen looking to fill the gaps along with a few linemen like center Freddie Burden and guard Nick Brigham who are cross trained.
Griffin is a redshirt freshman and is slated to start at left tackle while Chamberlain is one of the more experienced lineman and slated to start at right tackle. Joe has played in just three games in his three years at Tech. Freshmen tackles Trey Klock, Jake Stickler and Michael Preddy are already on campus and at least one of them is expected to play this fall.
