UCLA lands big safety
Ron Robinson was going to wait to take official visits. He was going to see Northwestern, maybe Utah, and then of course, he was going to check out the hometown Bruins.
But that whole plan went out the door Wednesday afternoon. He took a relatively unexpected unofficial visit to UCLA, and loved it so much that he ended the recruiting process on the spot.
"I took an unofficial today with my family and stuff," Robinson said. "And after the process, we just felt like UCLA was the best fit for me. I have a great relationship with all the coaches.
"We visited all the facilities, took a campus tour and stuff like that. They showed me the office, the athletics section and everything about the school. It was just great. It felt like home."
Robinson, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound safety from Corona (Calif.) Santiago, said the Bruins are recruiting him for either a safety position or their mini-linebacker spot.
He said his size and ability to cover are his biggest strengths, while the biggest thing he needs to work on is his backpedal and breaks.
The DB picked UCLA on Wednesday over Northwestern, New Mexico State, Cal Poly Pomona and UC Davis. He also said Utah was close to offering as well.
Right now, he's 100 percent committed and has no plans to visit any other schools.
"I want to compete for a national championship," Robinson said, "and build the best team around me that I can."
