South Carolina hosted a lot of its bigger targets Friday at the Black Magic showcase camp and offensive lineman Donell Stanley (Latta, S.C.) was one of them.
Stanley has been a regular at this event over the last two years.
"We toured around when we first got here," Stanley told GamecockCentral.com. "I brought my mom, my brother, and my uncle. I like the adjustments they have made. The academic center stood out to me. They have made a lot of adjustments to it. It seems like all the players like it with all the tutors over there. South Carolina is getting stronger."
Stanley said this was the first time his mother was able to get an in-depth look at South Carolina.
"She really liked it," Stanley said. "She doesn't like to travel as much but she liked what she saw."
South Carolina offensive line coach Shawn Elliott is recruiting Stanley for the Gamecocks. Stanley was able to work out with Elliott for about 30 minutes on Friday.
"It's always tough and it's always hard," Stanley said of the workout. "He gets you where you need to be and that is what I like about it. That is why I always come. Every time I come here he teaches me a lot. He was working on my footwork a lot and my hand placement."
The 6-foot-5, 320-pounder had previously been thinking about making his commitment at the Under Armour All-American Game in January. That has changed according to Stanley.
"It is going to come earlier (than the all-star game)," Stanley said.
Will it be before his senior season starts?
"I don't know yet," Stanley replied.
Stanley currently has a top four of Alabama, Clemson, North Carolina, and South Carolina. He isn't naming any leaders among that group.
"It is pretty even right now," Stanley said.
Stanley said that he doesn't have any other trips planned at this point.
