Rivals100 safety gearing up for Florida visit
CHICAGO, Ill - This weekend Lewisville (Tx.) Hebron Rivals100 safety Jamal Adams is set to showcase his talents along with many of the nation's top prospects at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented Under Armour.
After competing in the Windy City this weekend, Adams will unofficially visit Gainesville to check out the University of Florida next weekend.
"I'm going down that Friday [June 14th] and staying until Sunday [June 16th]," said Adams. "They have a camp, but I will not be camping. This is my first visit to Gainesville."
With this being Adams first time visiting Florida, he said the most important aspect he will be evaluating is how well it fits him.
"I am just going to see if it's the right place for me and see if there is a good opportunity for me to play as a freshman. I have the opportunity to do that at a few different schools, not just Florida."
During the spring Florida defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson made a stop by the four-star rated defensive back's high school. According to Adams, the two have already hit it off.
"He is definitely cool and keeps it real with me and tells you straight up if you have a chance to play or not. Then on top of that, if you're not going to play he tells you what you can do to fix it."
,br> Another tie Adams has to UF is wide receivers coach Joker Phillips, who is his Godfather.
"It really doesn't play a huge role with me," stated Adams. "He is coaching there, but could leave at any minute so that wont be a factor with me. It plays a role with my parents though because he is there and they know I would be safe. Joker was my dad's best man at his wedding and he actually introduced my parents, so he does have a lot of ties."
The 6-foot, 203-pound Lonestar State product has also spoken to head coach Will Muschamp, who compares him to a recent first round NFL draft pick at UF.
"He compares me to Matt Elam," said Adams of his talks with Muschamp. "He says the only thing different is I can cover a little better and I am taller, but he wants to use me the same way that Elam was. When they [Florida] told me that, it was definitely a high."
Recently Adams trimmed his college choices list to a top 12, and said that he already has started to think about narrowing things down even further. When that happens, he already knows of a few schools that will likely make the cut.
"Hopefully in the middle of my senior season I can trim it down again or maybe after. I know a lot of the Texas schools and Florida have a good chance to make it, but I am not quite ready to name anything or release anything like that."
Adams also added that Ohio State and Ole Miss could be possible visits in July and that Texas and Florida are two schools that will likely get an official visit in the fall.
