Anderson commits to NU
Auston Anderson. In recruiting, the early bird often catches the worm. That was certainly the case for Northwestern with running back
Northwestern was the first school to offer the three-star prospect from Plano (Texas) West and the Wildcats were his favorites all along.
As a result, Northwestern beat out a host of impressive schools for the 5-foot-9, 180-pounder when he committed to head coach Pat Fitzgerald this morning.
More than 15 other programs offered Anderson since Northwestern extended its offer in early February. But even schools such as Texas, Stanford, UCLA, Arkansas and Nebraska could not knock the Wildcats out of the top spot.
A small, fast back in the mold of current tailback Venric Mark, Anderson rushed for 1,156 yards and 13 touchdowns on just 168 carries last season. He has 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash.
Anderson took an overnight visit to Northwestern in April, where he was impressed by how much time and effort the Wildcat coaches had invested in him, as well as the Northwestern players he met.
"They made me feel like one of the boys," Anderson told WildcatReport at the time. "Everybody treated me as an equal. I found a real family atmosphere."
Anderson is the eighth member of Northwestern's Class of 2014 and the third to commit in the last week. He is the first running back in the class.
