Falah still mulling Oregon

Nico Falah had an in-home visit with Chip Kelly only a few days ago.

Then he was the Oregon coach. Wednesday morning, Kelly surprisingly accepted the Philadelphia Eagles job but Falah, who's still committed to USC, said the Ducks are still one of his favorites and won't count them out yet.

What's most interesting is what Falah said Kelly told him during their recent meeting.

"I'm still considering them," Falah said. "He told me if he leaves one of the current coaches will take his spot so Oregon is an option."

There has been extensive talk that if Kelly left for the NFL that Oregon offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich could be his successor. That has not been announced yet but the story is fresh so something could happen on that front.

Falah said Kelly did not specify which coach would take over after his departure.

"He didn't say exactly," Falah said. "Just one of the staff members."

Kelly's departure to the pros is not surprising but the manner in which it happened is interesting.

After interviewing for multiple NFL jobs, Kelly announced he would return to Oregon. He had in-home visits. Recruiting was going along. And then Wednesday morning it was reported by ESPN that Kelly was off to Philadelphia.

For Falah, Oregon remains a contender. So does Washington, where he visited recently and had a great trip.

This weekend will be important for the Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco prospect. He's taking his official visit to USC and could have a final decision soon after the trip.

USC, Washington and Oregon remain in the picture and Falah said even without Kelly the Ducks are still a contender.

Rivals.com rates Falah as the No. 16 offensive tackle in the 2013 class.
