Brown ready to dominate again

MORE: Five-Star Challenge | Underclassmen Challenge

Chesapeake (Va.) Indian River defensive tackle Andrew Brown is a man of few words. But there is one key point he wanted to get across when he was explaining his decision to accept the invitation to attend the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge in June.

"I want to show everyone I am the top player in the country," he said.

At 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds, the junior lineman with double-digit offers is in a prime spot to secure his desired ranking. And being one of only a few prospects from the class of 2014 to receive an invitation to the exclusive camp, Brown knows he can start the ball rolling on his charge up the rankings.

"I didn't expect to get invited," he said. "Especially since I am just an upcoming junior."

With offers from Ohio State, Miami, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and both Division I schools in his home state, among others, the invite to take part in the inaugural event probably shouldn't have been a surprise.

But it does provide a chance to showcase what those schools see in him:

"(I'm) quick," he said. "Speed. Fast."

Come June when Lakewood Stadium in Atlanta plays host to 100 of the best high school football players in America, Brown will be one of a small sample of defensive linemen. However, he is not worried about what other prospects are in his position group. In fact, he is looking across the line and hoping his opponents will be up for the challenge.

"I want a huge, 6-foot-10 lineman," he joked.

Coming off a pelvic stress fracture that limited his sophomore campaign, Brown said he has saved his energy this offseason and hopes to show better as a junior.

Much as he did as a freshman and sophomore, Brown has been very active on the camp circuit this offseason. And similar to his first rounds, he has been dominant at Rivals.com/VTO Sports and MDHigh.com showcase events.

Farrell's take

Brown has dominated every event he has been at, including the last two Rivals.com/VTO Sports Virginia camps, Top Gun and the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Combine. With his power, quickness and violent hands, how will he do against some of the top offensive linemen in the country? This will easily be the best level of competition he has faced and every rep he takes will be against a current four- or five-star, or a future one. This will be a chance for him to make another statement in regards to being a five-star for the class of 2014. - Mike Farrell
