Nelson learns more about Iowa

Cedar Rapids Xavier defensive end Matt Nelson finished the recruiting process at the end of June with a commitment to the University of Iowa. This versatile senior had a chance to make a return trip to Iowa City on Sunday and could sense the difference knowing this is where he will spend the next four or five years. We caught up with Nelson for a complete update.

Q: How was your Iowa visit overall?

NELSON: It was good to see everybody after I committed. It was good being able to see everyone.

Q: Was the feeling different now that you are committed?

NELSON: It felt like it was going to be my new home for the next four or five years. It really emphasizes this place is perfect for me.

Q: What really sold you on Iowa?

NELSON: I just love the coaches. They are all great and down to Earth. They really want to get to know you and that is what made Iowa feel so perfect for me.

Q: How has it been since you committed?

NELSON: It has been quiet and that has been nice after four or so months of phone calls. It has been nice to be a kid again.
