Barron plans spring visit
Though he's still in search of his first scholarship offer, Kirk Barron is turning heads this winter at the camps he's attended.
The 6-foot-3, 290-pound offensive lineman from Mishawaka (IN) Marian has drawn high praise this year from Rivals.com recruiting analyst Josh Helmholdt.
"What Barron lacks in height, he makes up for in strength, technique and sheer will," Helmholdt wrote after the Core 6 Showcase on Jan. 22 in Chicago. "The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Barron will be an interior offensive lineman at the next level, and he worked out much of the day at the center position. He brings a lot of intensity and was up for any challenge presented him. That attitude impressed the Core 6 coaches, and Barron wrapped up his day by taking home Lineman MVP honors."
Just a few days ago at the Best of the Midwest Camp in Indianapolis, Barron was recognized as one of the top overall performers.
"There are few prospects in the Midwest who enjoy competition more than the 6-foot-3, 290-pound Barron," Helmholdt wrote. "On Monday, he took most of his reps from the center position and did a good job simulating a snap and quickly getting into his pass set. Once Barron locks on, it is game over. He combines strength and technique to manhandle opposing linemen, and he has decent footwork. Expect Barron to populate these lists often throughout the spring because he loves to camp and always shows up to compete."
