Big Back Grew up on Bama, High on the Sooners
At one point, running backs coach, Cale Gundy and the Sooners had a running back already committed to them in the 2014 class in, Devon Thomas, who was the Sooners first offer at the position. Things changed quickly and Thomas has since switched his commitment to Bedlam rival, Oklahoma State putting Gundy back at square one.
The Sooners have extended five offers all together at the running back position and the most recent offer went to Pflugerville (Texas) Hendrickson four-star prospect, Samaje Perine. The 5-foot-11 and 216-pound back added the Sooners to his list that also includes Houston, Purdue, and Tennessee.
Perine explained how the offer came about.
"Before that I really didn't see much interest (from OU)," Perine said about picking up the offer from Oklahoma. "I really didn't see anything that would lead up to an offer. I got the standard couple of letters but I really didn't see a real recruiting process going on with them. Until a couple of weeks ago and coach (Bobby Jack) Wright started to come down to the school. Then just last week I think, coach (Cale) Gundy had come down, he gave me his card and told me to give him a call. When I gave him a call that's when he gave me the offer."
