It has been reported today from the official Twitter account of Trinity Valley (TX) Community College (because that's where all the kids get their news and entertainment information) that defensive tackle Raphael Cox has signed with the Hilltoppers.
I caught up with Raphael, via phone, to confirm and get his reaction and his impressions on his official visit to WKU over the weekend, "I really enjoyed my visit, I had fun. I took a look at Bowling Green as a city, I didn't realize it was that big, I was very impressed. I was also very impressed with the facilities, even though I already thought they would be nice in my mind."
His recruitment began with a simple phone call after de-committing from New Mexico, "coach Peoples (former WKU defensive line coach) had called my coach at Trinity Valley and said they were looking for defensive tackles. After they talked on the phone, coach (Peoples) called me up and said I had a scholarship offer at Western Kentucky and I jumped on it right away."
I asked Cox if the recent departure of Kevin Peoples from the WKU staff had any effect on his decision, "No, it doesn't effect my decision because my defensive tackle coach is going to be L.D. Scott, me and coach Scott bonded this weekend so I feel very confident that L.D. Scott can take me where I want to go as far as my expectations in football."
As previously mentioned, Cox was a visitor to the Hill over the weekend and signed his national letter of intent this morning (Sunday, January 13th, 2012).
The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder will be back on campus for the spring semester and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Cox joins fellow junior college signees Maurice Bennett, Connor Popeck, Dalton Patterson, Lonnie Turner, and Johnny Delaney as part of the 2013 signing class.
He also joins verbal commits Nicholas Norris, Joe Occhipinti, Josh Shelton, Brandon King, Shaquille Johnson, Devante Lee, Dishone Rimone, Johnny Delaney, Juwan Gardner, Marcus Ward, Devante Duclose, Kyle Jones, Marcus Adams, Ismael Aurismond, Jalen Edwards, Chris Huhn, Justin Martinez, Isaac Tanner, and Dontravious Wilson as part of 2013 recruiting class.
