Knighton close to Spartan offer?

Earlier today SpartanMag.com was able to catch up with 6-foot-5, 265-pound Hunter Knighton of the Hun School in Princeton, New Jersey. Find out what he is hearing from Michigan State and if a scholarship offer could be forthcoming.

Michigan State is looking to fill the final few spots for the class of 2013 and Knighton is one of a handful of prospects that is still very much in the picture. Knighton, who is rated a 3-star recruit by Rivals.com, has a solid list of scholarship offers which includes Boston College, Purdue, Miami, Northwestern, Rutgers, UConn and South Florida. In all, Knighton has over a dozen scholarship offers to select from The Spartans have yet to offer, but that could change in the near future.

“I am thinking about coming out to Michigan State for the Boise game,” Knighton said. “Coach Narduzzi has been telling me all summer that I need to get out there and that I will have a great chance at getting an offer. I am going to call the O-Line Coach this week to make sure that everyone is on the same page.”

Knighton is a very athletic prospect and that bodes well for his chances at earning a scholarship. Several teams actually are willing to look at him on the defensive line, though most see his future as an offensive tackle.

Knighton will play both ways for the Hun School this fall. We asked him about the upcoming season.

“Our team is looking great, he stated. We are so much further ahead of where we should be.”

Knighton has indicated that as of right now he is thinking he will take some official visits and the make his decision. However, he has not ruled out making an earlier choice if the right opportunity and situation presents itself.

Knighton will likely know in the next few days if his family will be traveling out to East Lansing to see the Spartans and Broncos in action. A sellout crowd is expected and it should be a great night of college football in East Lansing

Matt Dorsey’s Take:

As we have stated, Michigan State may only take 1 or 2 offensive line prospect for the class. Whoever they take, you can be sure they will project at the tackle spot. If the Spartans offer Knighton it likely means they are looking to add two tackles for this class.

It all comes down to a numbers game and what direction Mark Dantonio wants to go. If the Spartans offer Knight they will likely move right up toward the top of his list.
