Sutton talks position change

Cary (NC) Panther Creek's Mike Sutton is moving from offensive guard to center, which should be a good fit for the stocky lineman since most schools are recruiting him to snap.

Sutton is easily a shade under his 6-foot-3 listing, but the 300-pounder has the feet and hands to excel at pass and run-blocking.

"It's different snapping it and then going to block instead of just straight up blocking," Sutton said. "It will be a challenge at first, but I'll get it."

Sutton's experience as a wrestler should serve him well as an offensive lineman at the college level, as it has helped him develop hand and foot quickness. He finished 37-10 as a wrestler in the heavyweight division, and was ranked fifth in the state at one point during the season.

Rivals.com's Mike Farrell ranked him fourth on his list of the top big men performers at the one-day event after an impressive performance at the Rivals/VTO NC Elite 100 Combine in Charlotte.

Sutton followed the combine with a trip to Minnesota Tuesday, April 3, and a visit to East Carolina today [Wednesday, April 4]. He will check out Florida Friday, and will attend Wake Forest's spring football game April 14.

"I'm hearing a lot from Duke, [North] Carolina, Georgia Tech, and I'm hearing some from ECU," Sutton said. "I've gone to a lot of places. I've gone to Duke, [North] Carolina, Georgia Tech, ECU, Virginia Tech, [and] Wake Forest. My top three would be [North] Carolina, Georgia Tech and then Duke."

He has not received a scholarship offer yet.
