North Marion (Citra, Fla.) defensive back Reggie Wilkerson had as full of a day on Friday as one could have.
The Sunshine State star traveled to Athens to spend the afternoon with UGA coaches, and while on campus, the Bulldogs chose to offer him a scholarship.
According to Wilkerson, UGA's head honcho delivered the message himself.
"We were there for the visit," said Wilkerson. "Then Coach (Mark) Richt called and met with us in his office, and he told me they were offering me a scholarship. He said they want me at cornerback and as their nickel back."
The offer from the Bulldogs was the highlight of his visit to the Classic City, but Wilkerson gave the entire visit rave reviews.
"Oh man, it was a great visit," he said. "I really enjoyed it all. We got to see everything, and eat great food. I had a great time in Athens."
The Florida blue chipper now has five offers from Georgia, South Florida, Duke, Iowa State, and Utah, but two teams have really been standing out for Wilkerson of late.
"Lately, I've been really thinking about Georgia and Florida," said Wilkerson. "Those are my top two, and Georgia is in the lead for me right now."
The visit and the offer made quite an impression on the Wilkerson, but it is his relationship with the Georgia staff that has them in front.
"I really like the coaching staff a lot," he said. "They are showing me a lot of love, and I can tell that they want to win and put the best team on the field possible. Coach (John) Lilly is recruiting me, and he is a really cool guy. We talk a lot."
With a long drive ahead of him, and plenty of time to think about the Georgia visit, Wilkerson already knows how he feels about an opportunity play for the Bulldogs.
"I mean, when I think about playing for them, and playing for that defense, I see it as a very good thing for me," he said. "A very good thing."
