Cardiello has choices

The offensive line is a position that every team has to focus on in every recruiting class.

Teams need quality, they need quantity, and they look all over the country for the best players available.

With those factors in mind, it is no wonder that Buford offensive lineman Josh Cardiello is flattered at this point.

Just a couple of months after his junior season ended, the Buford standout already has three offers from SEC powers Florida, South Carolina, and Georgia.

The Bulldogs, who are only a 45-minute drive from the Peach State prospect, were the latest to offer, and it gave Cardiello a sense of relief.

"Coach (Jess) Simpson called coach (Bryan) McClendon, and he said that Coach (Mark) Richt wanted to talk to me," said Cardiello. "Then Coach Richt told me that I have an offer and they want me as a guard or center. They told me they wanted to have me up there again, and wanted me to be a Bulldog. Then I talked to Coach (Will) Friend, and he was really excited. I've been to Georgia multiple times, so it is good to have that offer out of the way."

According to Cardiello, Georgia was one of the first schools to show interest and he is very familiar with the program, but he grew up rooting for another school with which Coach Richt has strong ties.

"Florida State was my team growing up," he said. "My mom went there, and a bunch other family members went there. My dad, Jay Cardiello, played at Florida A&M which is right there too."

The offer from Georgia may be the latest offer for the Peach State lineman, but his other two offers from the Gators and Gamecocks are also fresh on his mind.

"Florida offered last week, and they want me as a guard or center too," said Cardiello. "I haven't been to Gainesville but I'm going down there this weekend, and I'm looking forward to that. South Carolina offered me recently and it was the first time I've ever talked to them so it was great getting to know those coaches too."

Despite the impressive offer list at such and early point in the recruiting process, Cardiello is keeping things open for the time being.

"I don't have a leader right now," he said. "I'm just looking forward to learning more about each program. There isn't really a school that I have a great idea about, so I just don't have leader at this point. Georgia, Florida State, Florida, South Carolina, and Auburn are probably the schools I'm considering most."

When it comes to offers, Cardiello admits that he would like an offer from both Auburn and Florida State due to his respect for both programs, but he isn't taking the offers he does have, and the ones he will get, for granted.

"I'm really thankful for the offers I have," he said. "I'm really happy to be in this situation and have this opportunity."

When the day comes that he will have to narrow down his list of schools and even make a choice, Cardiello, who has been a part of two state championships at Buford, knows exactly what he will be looking for.

"I want to be able to see myself playing for these coaches for four years," said Cardiello. "I want to see what these coaches believe in and the way they run the program and the weight room and all. I just want to look for those things."
