The Good: Johnson has been instrumental in the Buckeyes highly successful ground game over his unheralded career. He is the son of former NFL linebacker Pepper Johnson and plays with the same type of passion for the game, though he is not as athletic. He is a physical blocker who gets into an opponent quickly and with the power to open holes on a consistent basis. He is a hard nosed blocker who understands leverage and gets a strong surge from his powerful frame. He is not afraid to do the grunt work and is an ideal candidate for an NFL complimentary fullback role. As a blocker, he understands positioning, technique and angles, which enables him to grade out consistently high in that vital role.
The Bad: In the Ohio State offense, he was strictly a lead blocker. He has limited cutting skills and speed to get into the secondary.
Outlook: He is a marginal late pick or free agent signee with a make it grade and the talent to surprise in time. He is a solid fullback prospect with little fanfare, but he has the talent to start at some point of his career. His former experience at linebacker and physical playing style should earn him time on special teams where he was successful during his college stay.
