June 3, 2004A new feature to the NIKE Camps this year was the SPARQ Rating, a formula that combines the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, vertical jump and bench press into a single number that measures an athlete's overall athleticism.
Now that 10 NIKE Camps have been completed, here's a look at the top 100 SPARQ Ratings recorded at this year's camps, out of 3,300 total participants.
The NIKE Camp at Stanford produced the most players with top 10 SPARQ Ratings with five of the top 10, led by the SPARQ Rating leader, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman linebacker Ryan Reynolds.
While the NIKE Camp at Stanford produced the most top 10 players, the State College (Pa.) NIKE Camp placed 19 players in the top 100, the most of any NIKE Camp.
Here's the camp-by-camp breakdown of the top 100:
TOP 100 SPARQ Ratings at the 2004 NIKE Camp
Note: Some players chose not to test or to have their mark scratched from the records.*Taking the standard measurements of the football combine, the SPARQ Rating weighs and combines the 40-yard dash, 20-yard shuttle, vertical jump and bench press into a single number that measures an athlete?s overall athleticism. Thus, football players can track the progress of their training, through occasional tests, and compare SPARQ Ratings with teammates, training partners and competitors.
