Virginia Tech picked up commitment No 24 for the 2014 class this morning when Hopewell (Va.) athlete Tabyus Taylor made his commitment. Taylor, who was offered just a few weeks ago by the Hokies, made the decision over an offer from James Madison.
"I like the program overall at Virginia Tech and just the support system they've got," Taylor said. "It's a great fit for my family, friends and coaches, so that's why I chose to go. It's just the right fit for me."
Taylor, who played quarterback this season for the Blue Devils, will play running back at Virginia Tech.
This season, Taylor left his name in the record books. In a 41-34 win over Petersburg (Va.), Taylor ran for five touchdowns and a school-record 403 yards. Against Matoaca (Va.), he rushed for 290 yards and seven touchdowns. Against Colonial Heights (Va.), he rushed for six touchdowns and in Hopewell's first round playoff win over York (Va.), he added 301 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns and 179 yards passing with two more touchdowns.
Taylor was recruited by assistant coach Shane Beamer and also drew interest from Maryland, Old Dominion, Virginia and Norfolk State. Check back this afternoon for plenty of coverage on the newest Hokie.
