October 23, 2013Penn State's recent success on the recruiting trail continued on Tuesday evening when linebacker Jason Cabinda verbally committed to Bill O'Brien and the Nittany Lion coaching staff.
The former Syracuse commit let both coaching staff's know of his decision last night.
"I just had an appendectomy, so I'm a little under the weather, but I committed to Penn State tonight," Cabinda said Tuesday evening. "I'll do interviews and everything tomorrow."
The 6-foot-1, 220 pound outside linebacker was in attendance for Penn State's game against Michigan back on Oct. 12. He noted that the actual game experience was something he'll never forget, but it was actually the conversation with O'Brien before the game that really made an impact on his decision.
"They got me there early and it allowed me to have a nice sit-down with Coach O'Brien," Cabinda said in a previous interview. "He was talking about how this is what Penn State is all about, plus all the other things, academics, that kind of stuff. He also got a chance to sit-down and talk to my mom as well. That was the first time they got a chance to speak.
"But really, he just stressed that no matter what, this whole recruiting process is about doing what's best for me. No matter what the fans at either school think, it's all about making sure I'm comfortable with my final decision. That's the most important thing, so that was a really good talk. I really appreciated that coming from him. It went real well."
Cabinda is expected to return to State College in the first or second week of December to take an official visit with the rest of Penn State's Class of 2014. He no longer plans to visit Syracuse in January.
Blue White Illustrated will have much more on Cabinda and his commitment later today.
