December 2, 2012There was a part of Jamauri Bogan that wanted to hit the road and visit some colleges this fall.
After all, plenty of other high-profile recruits do that during the season. So why not him?
The 5-foot-7, 162-pound back from Union (N.J.) resisted that temptation for reasons you can probably guess.
"I could have [taken college visits] but I didn't because I was focused on my junior season," Bogan said. "Our season is over now. It ended on Thanksgiving. We lost in the first round [of the playoffs]."
Bogan rushed for 1,100 yards and 15 touchdowns on the year. And now that the season's over he can start visiting colleges without feeling like he is abandoning his teammates during their weekly routine.
West Virginia, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Pittsburgh and Boston College are the schools that kept in the closest contact with Bogan during the season.
"I probably want to visit Georgia Tech just to see what it's like out there," Bogan told JacketsOnline.com. "I've been to Rutgers plenty of times but I might do that again. I want to go out to California for UCLA. I'll probably stop at those schools."
Joe Speed is continuing to recruit Bogan for the Jackets. Where does Tech stand?
"They're recruiting me really hard and it's an exciting place to be," Bogan said. "Atlanta's a hot area. They're in the ACC championship this week and I like the fact that they run the ball a lot. That suits a running back like me well.
"Coach Speed talks to me on Facebook sometimes and he'll send me personal letters a lot of weeks."
