Tanner makes his choice
Tampa, Fla., linebacker Isaac Tanner traveled through several states to arrive at WKU on July 28 for one of the program's summer camps.
A 12 hour trip from Tampa to Bowling Green, the efforts paid off for Tanner when he left camp with an offer from the WKU coaching staff.
For the standout linebacker, the July 28 weekend was all he needed to confirm that WKU was the right school for him.
"It came down to if I could see myself living there," Tanner said. "If I could see myself maintaining a life there.
"I want to be the guy that helps build something great, something to be remembered forever."
The Freedom HS star chose WKU over offers from Florida International, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Ohio, Middle Tennessee, and Elon.
"It really came down to talking to my family about it," Tanner said. "Making sure it was the right fit for me, making sure everyone was on board.
"We sat down and had one last discussion, and decided it (WKU) was a great fit for me."
Tanner has a relationship with one of WKU's new coaches, Marquel Blackwell, who was the head coach at Tanner's high school from 2007-2008 before he left to join the staff at South Florida.
"He (Blackwell) coached my brother," Tanner said.
The July 28 camp standout noted it's nice to have his decision out of the way.
"Definitely a relief, to get it off my chest," Tanner said. "But that (WKU)'s the place I want to be."
With his commitment to the Hilltoppers, the linebacker is now ready to focus on his senior season.
"Team goals, we want to win district," Tanner said. "Then take it one game at a time.
"Individually, my personal goal is 150 tackles and 15 sacks."
The Hilltoppers now have eight commitments in their class, with two from the state of Florida in Tanner and Justin Martinez.
