June 28, 2010North Carolina redshirt freshman defensive tackle Jared McAdoo has been cited for a misdemeanor weapons charge according to the Orange County Court System.
The offense code, numbered 5235, is for 'weapons on educational property,' as it's a violation of state law to have any kind of firearm on a college campus in North Carolina.
North Carolina General Statute 14.269.2 prohibits the possession of weapons on any property owned, leased, or occupied by any North Carolina educational institution.
This prohibition applies whether the weapon is concealed or not concealed. This prohibition includes handguns, rifles, BB guns, air rifles, pellet guns, bows, swords, explosives, blackjacks, metallic knuckles, razors and knives etc., but is not necessarily limited to these items.
Carolina Blue has been informed that McAdoo was cited for having a BB gun in his possession while on UNC campus property.
A search of the statewide court system revealed that McAdoo's court appearance will be August 23.
McAdoo, a native of Chapel Hill, has faced some legal trouble before, as back in the summer of 2008 prior to his senior year of high school he was cited for felony narcotics possession, resulting in a deferred prosecution.
The rising second-year defensive lineman is a big piece of North Carolina's future plans in the trenches.
He's expected to see considerable playing time this fall as part of UNC's two-deep rotation.
