Head coach Tom O'Brien announced after Tuesday's practice that redshirt freshman punter Chris Ward had been suspended indefinitely, while senior Jeff Ruiz will return to the team after earlier announcing intentions to transfer.

Ward had been the favorite to take over the punting duties in 2010. The Fayetteville, Ga., native had been considered the top punter recruit in the 2009 class. O'Brien said that Ward remains in school.

Ruiz punted 46 times for an average of 37.9 yards last season.

Ward becomes the second Wolfpack player suspended this spring. Redshirt junior defensive tackle J.R. Sweezy was suspended after being charged with misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor larceny in his hometown of Mooresville, N.C., Thursday night.

O'Brien had no comments on Sweezy.
