Second Kenner quarter eliminates Puppies

July 25, 2007 - After seeing two other 'Puppies' or Georgetown Men's Basketball freshman, get eliminated from Jabbo Kenner League title contention, newcomer swingmen Austin Freeman (16 points) and Omar Wattad (11 points) followed their brethren, as Myers and Alterman defeated their Clyde's team, 94-88 in last night's second quarterfinal match up (See accompanying link for coverage of the evenings first game).

Though G'Town guards and their Clyde's teammates, junior Jessie Sapp (25 points) and sophomore Jeremiah Rivers (8 points), did much to forestall the eventual outcome, ironically two other members of last year's Hoya team, Tyler Crawford (30 points) and Jeff Green (21 points) sealed their fate.

Crawford, a senior guard known for his scrappy, physical play, had one of his best games of the summer, hitting jumpers, defending, rebounding, passing and filling lanes all night long. He looked in mid-season form, as witnessed right before the 10:55 mark of the second half, when Crawford scored on a tip in and fast break dunk in succession, ensuring Myers and Alterman would never again trail.

Green, who opted to forgo is senior year this spring and as a result was selected with the fifth pick by the Seattle Supersonics in the National Basketball Association's draft, repeatedly made plays when necessary. Jeff also displayed the skill set he greatly expanded during three years on The Hilltop, including dropping three point shots and dribbling in traffic - particularly eye-popping were his nifty spin moves.
