Oregon has snared the first verbal commitment of their 2008 recruiting class - 6-foot-4, 230-pound tight end Mychal Rivera of Van Nuys (Calif.) Birmingham. Duck Sports Authority has spoken with Rivera and will have a full story later today.

In the meanwhile, here are some thoughts from Rivera.

• "I knew I was going to commit before I even went. It was just a matter of how nice the campus was. Just so that it wasn't just a fluke and going up there wasn't just horrible. I knew it wasn't going to be, so right there I told him 'coach Bellotti, I'll be attending your school.'"
