Bobo to call plays next season
Kelly Quinlan
UGASports.com With the announcement of quarterbacks coach Mike Bobo's promotion to offensive coordinator, the search narrows for a replacement for the departing offensive line coach Neil Callaway to only an offensive line coach.
Bobo will still handle the quarterback coaching duties as well as the offensive coordinator position. Bobo will also handle the playing calling duties for the Bulldogs in the 2007 season and he will continue to coach from the coaches box in Sanford Stadium rather than from the field.
"Yeah it is official he will call plays next year and he will stay in the box because he needs to be in the box," said head coach Mark Richt. "Personally I think it is huge (advantage coaching from the box). For me personally to be up there and see the whole thing, there is nothing like it. You can see or hear things up close, but you cannot see the big picture."
Richt had called almost every offensive play during his tenure at Georgia with the exception of the one-minute offensive that coach Bobo called.
"I have known for a while that he is going to be an outstanding coordinator and play caller. I wanted to give him this opportunity to spread his wings a little bit to see what he has got," said coach Richt about Bobo.
