Stock heating up for Westbrook

Watching Lawndale, Calif., Leuzinger combo guard Russell Westbrook (6-3, 175) play two extremely active halves of basketball at the recent Collision VIII City Vs. CIF All-Star game Saturday at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif., one can hear the strains of Del Shannon's classic song "Handyman." To paraphrase: He's busy 24 hours a day.


Apparently, UCLA head basketball coach Ben Howland and assistant coach Kerry Keating agree, for according to Westbrook, UCLA is among the teams nationally who have offered a scholarship.


Westbrook, who averaged 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 2,5 steals per game, has offers from the likes of Wake Forest, Creighton, Miami, Arizona State, San Diego, and Kent State.


Westbrook, who carries a 3.8 GPA and passed his SAT, told Bruinblitz.com that he just returned from trip to San Diego where he was offered on the spot. Nonetheless, he is not yet close to a decision.


"I am maybe a week or two away from deciding," he said.
