Commit caps big recruiting weekend
The blockbuster news of the recruiting week for Oregon was a commitment by running back Tony James, a four-star prospect from Gainesville, Florida who made his official visit for the Oregon-California monsoon.
James, a shifty all-purpose back with 10.52 speed in the 100, shook off the miserable weather to recognize he'd found the perfect home for his talents in Eugene. He told DSA's A.J. Jacobson, "You know how when something feels good, you just have a feeling you belong here and nothing can bring you down. I had that feeling there. I didn't care if a hurricane came through and wrecked the whole place, I was still going to commit."
The new Hatfield-Dowlin Football Performance Center is already paying dividends. James and his mother watched the second half from a comfortable seat in the player's lounge, the family and team-oriented amenities making quite an impression.
