Rubenzer on Elite 11, Cal hats, and Franklin
It's been an eventful couple of months for Saguaro (Scottsdale, AZ) quarterback Luke Rubenzer. The 3-star signal-caller earned an offer shortly after Cal's camp back on June 9. He committed to the Golden Bears on June 13. Three weeks later, he headed up to Beaverton, Oregon for the Elite 11 Finals and The Opening.
GoldenBearReport caught up with Luke to discuss his experience in Oregon, and what it meant to him.
"The experience in Oregon was incredible, and just really unique. The Opening is an event where you basically get 150 of the best high school football players in the country all together in one place. And everyone is kind of going through the same things in terms of recruiting, and also just trying to become the best players they can. Unique is the best word I can use to describe it."
In the final rankings of the Elite 11 competition, Luke was named the No. 8 quarterback of the 18 that attended ... that despite being the lowest ranked dual-threat quarterback in attendance. And the experience itself transcended the game of football.
"It was a tremendous experience. I learned so much. The Elite 11 coaching staff kept saying that if you just leave there as a better football player, they haven't done their job. Their main goal is for you to not only come away as a better football player, but also a better person."
